THE HEART & SOUL OF JAPANESE TAIKO
‘Tamashii School of Taiko Do’ is one of the UK’s leading organisations teaching and promoting the Art of Japanese Taiko. We offer workshops, public classes & professional performances in London and throughout the UK.
Founded & run by Liz Walters since 2000.
“TAIKO IS NOT MERELY DRUMMING, IT’S AN EMOTION THAT THE WHOLE BODY AND MIND CAN EXPERIENCE.”

FOR EVERYONE
TEAM BUILDING
Taiko Drumming used for Team Building Workshops promotes and encourages fitness, focus and discipline alongside personal and social interactive skills while being fun at the same time.
Learning and playing Taiko is physically and mentally demanding and highly challenging on all levels. The nature of Taiko also requires group unity which enhances team support and inspiration.
SCHOOL WORKSHOPS
A fun and inspiring opportunity for children to learn about Japan and its culture, through Taiko drumming workshops & performances – suitable for primary, secondary mainstream and SEN pupils between KS1 and KS5.
Our experienced facilitators will bring a full set of traditional Japanese drums to your school and introduce you and your pupils to the amazing and dynamic world of Japanese Taiko. Perfect for International, Cultural or Arts Week/Days.
TAIKO THERAPY
Drumming has been used therapeutically across many cultures for centuries. Not only does it promote physical & mental discipline, it can also create powerful changes on an energetic and healing level.
We start all our taiko therapy classes with a meditation and then explore the therapeutic aspects of drumming for personal empowerment.

WHAT THEY SAY
I was the last person I’d expect to like drumming, but having found Tamashii, I just love it. The classes have unleashed a sense of pure joy that I haven’t experienced since I was a child. I find it both energising and meditative at the same time. You will definitely improve your mental and physical fitness. Liz is a true professional, she runs the classes with discipline, but at all times with a nurturing and fun attitude
Having worked in the live music industry for over 25 years, I’ve come across some of the most professional performers and music industry leaders. Liz Walters is a true professional and further to that, she is extremely passionate about what she does. She instils discipline and inspiration in all her classes. My partner invited me to join a taster session and I found that Taiko was something that really resonated with me, something I have enjoyed as a means of de-stressing, centering and energising myself and just feeling great on both a physical and mental level.
Taiko is like yoga or martial arts in that it’s not just about the weekly class but about the daily practice discipline that you to make progress. To learn to play Taiko drums you need a teacher who is technically brilliant, empathetic, joyful, endlessly patient and unconditionally supportive. Liz Walters is all these and her classes are a weekly fix of energy, positivity, focus and love – in the form of learning to play Japanese drums. Beg to be put on the waiting list for the beginner’s class. Then wait as long as it takes.
